Saliva protein may reveal gum disease severity and treatment success
NCT ID NCT07262606
First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a protein called Mitofusin-1 (Mfn1) in saliva can help identify how severe gum disease (periodontitis) is and how well treatment works. Researchers will compare Mfn1 levels in healthy people, those with mild to severe gum disease, and smokers with severe gum disease. Participants will provide saliva samples and get standard gum treatment, with follow-up after 3 months. The goal is to see if Mfn1 could become a simple, non-invasive tool for diagnosing and monitoring gum disease.
