Flush or not? small study tests routine saline for kidney tube blockage prevention

NCT ID NCT06987877

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether regularly flushing a nephrostomy tube (a tube that drains urine from the kidney) with salt water helps prevent it from getting blocked. About 20 adults who have or will get a nephrostomy tube will be randomly assigned to either flush the tube routinely or not flush it. Researchers will compare blockage rates over 3 months to see if flushing is necessary.
