ER blood test may quickly spot epilepsy in fainting patients
NCT ID NCT07527754
First seen Apr 15, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looks at whether measuring a protein called S100B in the blood can help emergency room doctors quickly tell if a person's fainting spell is due to epilepsy or another cause. About 100 adults who come to the ER after losing consciousness will give an extra blood sample. Researchers will then check how well the S100B level matches the final diagnosis made three months later. If the test works well, it could reduce the need for many other tests and shorten hospital stays.
