New hope for young transplant patients: Steroid-Free GVHD treatment explored

NCT ID NCT06695507

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study tested whether the drug ruxolitinib could be used as the first treatment for chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) in children and young adults, instead of the usual high-dose steroids. cGVHD is a serious complication after a stem cell transplant where the donor cells attack the patient's body. The goal was to see if ruxolitinib alone could control the disease and reduce the need for steroids. However, the study was terminated early after enrolling only 1 participant.
