Brain zaps may curb smoking cravings in hardcore smokers
NCT ID NCT02812810
First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This pilot study tested whether low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to a specific brain area could reduce cravings in heavy smokers who had failed at least two previous quit attempts. 39 adults aged 18-65 who were highly dependent on nicotine and wanted to quit received rTMS along with nicotine replacement therapy. The main goal was to see if this combination could lower craving scores and improve quit success.
