Brain zaps for tummy pain: new hope for IBS sufferers?

NCT ID NCT06409078

First seen Dec 22, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called rTMS to see if it could reduce chronic visceral pain in people with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D). Researchers used brain scans to find overactive pain areas and then targeted them with magnetic pulses. The trial involved 42 adults and measured changes in symptom severity and rectal sensitivity. The goal was to control pain, not cure the condition.
