Heart surgery hope for patients with dangerously low platelets

Summary
This study tests whether romiplostim, a drug that boosts platelet production, can safely increase platelet counts in patients with low platelets (thrombocytopenia) before they undergo heart surgery. About 136 adults scheduled for cardiac surgery will receive either romiplostim or a placebo 10-14 days before their operation. The goal is to see if the drug reduces bleeding and the need for transfusions after surgery, potentially making life-saving heart surgery safer for these patients.
