New scan could end steroid nightmare for blood vessel disease patients

NCT ID NCT07269938

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study will use a special scan to see if immune cells called B cells are present in the blood vessels of people with giant cell arteritis (GCA), a serious disease that can cause blindness or stroke. Current treatments rely on steroids, which have harsh side effects. If B cells are found, it could lead to trials of targeted drugs that might replace steroids. The study involves 30 adults with GCA and two control groups.
