Less water, healthier lungs? new trial for preterm infants
NCT ID NCT06954142
First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving slightly less fluid (135 mL per kg per day) compared to standard amounts (165 mL per kg per day) can prevent a serious lung condition called bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in very premature babies born before 30 weeks. About 750 infants will take part, and the main goal is to see if restricted fluids reduce BPD or death by 36 weeks after conception. The approach is simple and could offer a low-cost way to protect fragile lungs.
