Sled training vs. sprints: which boosts runner performance more?
NCT ID NCT06729138
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at 80 runners to see if adding resisted sprint training with a sled (pulling a weight) improves running economy, speed, and biomechanics more than regular sprint training alone. Participants trained twice a week for eight weeks. The goal is to find better ways for distance runners to train.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Resisted sprint training using a sled
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could help coaches and runners choose better training methods to improve running economy and speed.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed study with only 80 runners from one region, so results may not apply to all runners. It measures performance markers, not real race outcomes.
