Sled training vs. sprints: which boosts runner performance more?

NCT ID NCT06729138

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at 80 runners to see if adding resisted sprint training with a sled (pulling a weight) improves running economy, speed, and biomechanics more than regular sprint training alone. Participants trained twice a week for eight weeks. The goal is to find better ways for distance runners to train.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Resisted sprint training using a sled

What this could lead to

If it works, this could help coaches and runners choose better training methods to improve running economy and speed.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 80 runners from one region, so results may not apply to all runners. It measures performance markers, not real race outcomes.
