Exercise and creatine combo may restore strength in cancer survivors
NCT ID NCT06420726
First seen Jun 08, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
Many colorectal cancer survivors lose muscle mass and strength after chemotherapy. This study tested whether adding creatine supplements to a 10-week resistance training program could help. Twenty-seven survivors participated, comparing those who took creatine with those who only exercised. The goal was to see if this combination is feasible and acceptable, and whether it improves muscle strength, physical function, and quality of life.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
creatine monohydrate
What this could lead to
If this approach works, it could offer a simple way to help colorectal cancer survivors rebuild muscle strength and physical function after chemotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 27 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The combination of exercise and supplements may not provide additional benefit over exercise alone.
