Potato starch trial aims to heal gut-brain link in veterans with PTSD and liver disease
NCT ID NCT06464952
First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looks at how a simple potato starch supplement changes gut bacteria in 30 veterans who have both cirrhosis (liver scarring) and PTSD. Researchers want to see if this natural fiber can improve the balance of good bacteria in the gut, which may help with brain health. Participants will take either potato starch or a placebo (cellulose) for a period, and their gut bacteria and bile acids will be measured. This is an early-stage study to gather information, not a treatment.
