First seen Mar 27, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tests whether taking extra hydrocortisone during stressful times (like illness or emotional strain) improves quality of life, especially fatigue, in people with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) or giant cell arteritis (GCA). Participants are 50 or older, on low-dose prednisolone for at least 12 weeks, and have adrenal insufficiency caused by steroids. Half will get hydrocortisone, half a placebo, and track symptoms via a smartphone app.
