Could a simple swab replace a biopsy for fertility microbiome tests?
NCT ID NCT06920797
First seen May 11, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looked at whether less invasive methods, like a vaginal swab or collecting fluid from the womb, can reliably measure the microbiome (the community of bacteria) in the reproductive tract. 57 women aged 18-50 provided samples using these gentler methods and the standard biopsy. The goal was to see if the simpler methods give the same information as the biopsy, and if the microbiome stays stable over 1-3 months.
