Simple cuff trick may shield heart during surgery
NCT ID NCT02427867
First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether briefly inflating a blood-pressure cuff on the arm before surgery can reduce heart damage in high-risk patients. Over 1,200 adults undergoing non-cardiac surgery will be randomly assigned to receive the cuff procedure or a sham. The goal is to see if this simple, low-cost technique lowers cardiac troponin levels, a marker of heart injury.
