New pill could melt away heart plaque in landmark trial
NCT ID NCT06305559
First seen Apr 12, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study tests a daily combination pill (obicetrapib and ezetimibe) to see if it can reduce fatty plaque buildup in the arteries of 300 adults with heart disease. Participants must already be on cholesterol-lowering therapy but still have high LDL cholesterol and measurable plaque. The goal is to slow or shrink plaque over 18 months, but this is a long-term management approach, not a cure.
