First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study tests whether a wrist-worn device that sends mild electrical pulses can reduce nausea and vomiting after bariatric sleeve gastrectomy. One hundred adults will wear either an active device or a placebo for 24 hours after surgery. Researchers will compare nausea scores, use of anti-nausea drugs, and recovery measures like mobility and pain.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Reletex Reliefband (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation device)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to manage post-surgery nausea, reducing side effects like drowsiness and helping patients recover faster.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 participants. Past studies had limitations, and the device may not work better than a placebo.
