Breathe easy: relaxation exercises slash Post-Surgery pain and anxiety

NCT ID NCT07301073

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested whether doing progressive relaxation exercises after emergency surgery can help with pain, anxiety, and vital signs like heart rate. 70 adults were split into two groups: one did relaxation exercises at 6 hours, 1 day, and 2 days after surgery, while the other received standard care. The relaxation group reported significantly less pain and anxiety, and had better heart rate and oxygen levels. This suggests a simple, drug-free way to improve recovery after emergency surgery.
