New strategy aims to cut unnecessary antibiotics in pneumonia care
NCT ID NCT05568654
First seen Mar 12, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tests two approaches—rapid diagnostic testing and pharmacist-led de-escalation—to reduce the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics in adults hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia. Over 12,500 participants across multiple hospitals will be assigned to one of four groups to see which strategy works best. The goal is to give the right antibiotics for the right amount of time, reducing side effects and antibiotic resistance.
