Zapping dry eye: radiofrequency offers new hope for sufferers

NCT ID NCT06220474

First seen May 11, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a non-invasive radiofrequency treatment, combined with a standard gland-clearing procedure, can improve dry eye symptoms better than the standard procedure alone. About 112 adults with stubborn dry eye due to blocked oil glands will be randomly assigned to receive either the radiofrequency treatment or a sham (fake) treatment, followed by gland expression. The main goal is to see if the radiofrequency group has a longer tear breakup time (a measure of tear stability) over 24 weeks.
