New drug combo shows promise for rare bone marrow failure

NCT ID NCT00471848

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tested a combination of rabbit antithymocyte globulin (a drug that suppresses the immune system) and ciclosporin in 35 people with aplastic anemia, a condition where the bone marrow stops making enough blood cells. The goal was to see if this treatment could improve blood cell counts and reduce the need for blood transfusions. The results were compared to historical data from patients who received a similar treatment made from horse antibodies.
