Heart procedure put to the test: real relief or placebo?

NCT ID NCT05119231

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study compares a standard heart procedure called pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) to a fake (sham) procedure to see if the symptom relief in atrial fibrillation patients is real or just a placebo effect. About 262 adults with symptomatic atrial fibrillation will be randomly assigned to receive either the real PVI or a sham procedure. The main goal is to measure changes in symptoms and quality of life after 6 months.
