Heart procedure put to the test: sham surgery reveals truth about AF treatment

NCT ID NCT05119231

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study compares a standard heart procedure called pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) to a fake (sham) procedure in 262 people with atrial fibrillation. The goal is to see if the real procedure actually reduces symptoms and improves quality of life more than the placebo effect. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either PVI or the sham procedure and will be followed for 12 months.
