Summary

This study will measure the average age at which girls in the Asyut governorate of Egypt begin puberty, focusing on breast development as the first sign. Researchers will survey about 600 girls aged 6 to 13 from urban and rural areas, along with their parents, to gather information on diet, activity, sleep, environment, and family history. The goal is to fill a gap in local data and identify factors that may influence puberty timing, which could help shape adolescent health strategies in Egypt.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
This could establish local reference values for puberty timing in Upper Egypt, helping doctors identify early or delayed puberty more accurately.
What could go wrong
As an observational study, it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not apply beyond the Asyut region, and recall bias from questionnaires could affect accuracy.
