Magic mushroom therapy trial aims to break opioid dependence in pain patients
NCT ID NCT05585229
Summary
This small pilot study is testing whether therapy sessions using the psychedelic compound psilocybin can help people with chronic pain safely reduce or stop their opioid pain medications. The study will involve 10 adults who have previously struggled to taper off opioids. Participants will receive one or two guided psilocybin sessions alongside psychological support over 8 weeks, followed by 6 months of monitoring to check safety and see if opioid reductions are maintained.
