Magic mushroom therapy trial for IBS gut pain
NCT ID NCT06206265
Summary
This small, early-stage study is testing whether taking oral psilocybin (the active compound in 'magic mushrooms') during guided psychotherapy sessions can help adults with hard-to-treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The main goal is to check the safety of this approach and see if it can reduce symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation. Fourteen participants will be randomly assigned to receive the treatment immediately or after an 8-week wait, and their symptoms will be tracked for a year.
