Magic mushrooms tested for gut relief

NCT ID NCT06206265

Summary

This small, early-stage study is testing whether taking psilocybin (the active compound in 'magic mushrooms') along with talk therapy can help adults with hard-to-treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Fourteen participants will be randomly assigned to receive the treatment right away or after an 8-week wait. Researchers will check if the treatment safely reduces abdominal pain, improves bowel habits, and eases related anxiety and depression over a year.
