First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tests whether psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) combined with talk therapy can help adults with severe alcohol use disorder reduce heavy drinking. Thirty-six participants who recently completed detox will receive either a full dose (30-40mg) or a low dose (10-15mg) of psilocybin during two therapy sessions. The trial measures changes in drinking patterns, cravings, and brain activity to see if the higher dose works better and is safe.
