Experimental 'Storm Stopper' therapy tested for COVID, flu, and RSV

NCT ID NCT06684379

First seen Jun 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This early-stage trial tests a new drug called PRS CK STORM, made from immune and fat cells, to see if it can safely calm the 'cytokine storm'—a dangerous overreaction of the immune system—in people with severe COVID-19, flu, or RSV who need oxygen. About 50 adults will receive one of two doses or a placebo. The main goals are to check safety and to see if the treatment reduces inflammation and improves oxygen levels.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

PRS CK STORM (a liquid made from immune and fat cells)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new way to calm the dangerous overreaction of the immune system (cytokine storm) in severe respiratory infections.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small trial (50 people) testing safety and dosing. It may not show clear benefit, and the treatment is still experimental.
