Stem cell therapy shows promise for controlling type 1 diabetes

NCT ID NCT00690066

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tested a stem cell treatment called PROCHYMAL in 63 people recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The goal was to see if the treatment could safely help the body keep making some of its own insulin, reducing the need for injected insulin. Participants received multiple doses of the stem cells or a placebo, and researchers measured insulin production and blood sugar control over time.
