First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study looked at whether measuring a substance called procalcitonin in the blood can help doctors safely shorten the time newborns with late-onset sepsis need antibiotics. Over 500 babies born at 24 weeks or later were included. The goal was to see if using procalcitonin levels could reduce antibiotic use by 30% without increasing the chance of infection returning or death.
