Probiotics may shield cancer patients from Immunotherapy's gut woes
NCT ID NCT06508034
First seen Jan 22, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tests whether taking an over-the-counter probiotic (VSL#3®) can prevent colitis (colon inflammation and diarrhea) in cancer patients receiving immunotherapy. Immunotherapy helps the immune system fight tumors but can cause colitis in up to 45% of patients. The trial enrolls adults with solid tumors who are starting or have just started immunotherapy, and will compare colitis rates in those taking the probiotic.
