First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study looked at whether tiny plastic particles (microplastics) we encounter daily might contribute to obesity and gut problems. Researchers gave 96 overweight or obese adults either a probiotic supplement or a placebo to see if the probiotic could reduce the harmful effects of microplastics. The goal was to find a simple nutritional way to help protect against weight gain and inflammation linked to plastic exposure.
