Gut health boost: probiotics may aid joint infection recovery

NCT ID NCT06919913

First seen Mar 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking probiotics alongside standard treatment can improve immune markers and recovery in people with hip or knee joint infections after replacement surgery. About 152 adults aged 18-90 who need surgery and antibiotics for their infection will take either probiotics or a placebo. Researchers will track blood markers, complications, and patient-reported outcomes to see if probiotics help.
