Resilience training shows promise for teens facing advanced cancer
NCT ID NCT03668223
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a program called PRISM that teaches stress management, goal-setting, and coping skills to adolescents and young adults (ages 12-24) with advanced cancer. Researchers wanted to see if it could improve quality of life and reduce anxiety and depression. The program involves several one-on-one coaching sessions and was compared to usual care in a randomized trial across multiple hospitals.

- Active substance
- Promoting Resilience in Stress Management (PRISM) behavioral intervention
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this program could help teens and young adults with advanced cancer feel better emotionally and cope more effectively with their illness.
- What could go wrong
- This is a completed trial with 195 participants, but the intervention is behavioral—it may not work for everyone, and benefits might be modest or not last long-term.
