Pre-Surgery vitamin D3 may ward off dangerous calcium drop after thyroid removal

NCT ID NCT07597096

First seen May 21, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two ways to prevent low blood calcium after total thyroidectomy: taking calcium with vitamin D3 for a week before surgery versus calcium alone. About 124 adults with multinodular goiter will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups. After surgery, doctors will check for symptoms like tingling or muscle cramps and measure calcium levels at several time points to see which approach works better.
