Pasteurized vs. raw milk: which is better for tiny preemies?

NCT ID NCT07411872

First seen Mar 01, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looked at 900 very low birth weight preterm babies to see if pasteurizing their mother's milk (done when the mother has a common virus) changes their health risks. Researchers compared serious complications like infections and lung problems between babies who got raw versus pasteurized milk, also considering if the baby's sex played a role. The goal was to understand the trade-offs of pasteurization, not to test a new treatment.
