Can exercise before spine surgery help? tiny study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT05452057
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a prehabilitation program—including exercise, nutrition advice, and stress management—is feasible for adults awaiting spinal deformity surgery. Only 6 people took part, and the goal was to see if such a program could be delivered and followed, not whether it improves recovery. The results will help design larger future trials.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Prehabilitation (exercise, nutrition, and stress management)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that a pre-surgery fitness program is practical and may help adults recover better from spinal deformity surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small feasibility study with only 6 participants, so results may not apply widely. It does not test whether prehabilitation actually improves outcomes.
