PQQ supplement may boost fat burning in weekend warriors
NCT ID NCT07148726
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looked at whether taking a daily PQQ supplement for six weeks can improve how non-endurance athletes burn fat and use energy during exercise. Twenty-four basketball players were randomly assigned to receive either PQQ or a placebo. Researchers measured fat oxidation, body composition, and blood markers to see if the supplement made a difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) dietary supplement
- What this could lead to
- If PQQ improves fat oxidation and metabolic markers, it could point toward a supplement to boost exercise efficiency in non-endurance athletes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 24 participants. Results may not apply to the general population, and any benefits might be minor or not reproducible.
