First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tested a new handheld device that attaches to a smartphone to measure a natural chemical called protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) in the skin. Researchers measured PpIX levels on the face, arms, hands, and scalp of 219 adults to see how factors like age, skin type, and body temperature affect these levels. The goal was to gather information that could help personalize photodynamic therapy, a light-based treatment for certain skin conditions.
