Pill power: oral antibiotics may replace IV for infected broken bones

NCT ID NCT05699174

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tests whether taking antibiotics by mouth for 6 weeks works as well as getting them through an IV for people with infected broken bones that didn't heal properly. About 250 adults will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments, along with surgery. The goal is to see if oral antibiotics can reduce hospital stays, complications, and costs while still controlling the infection.
