Mind over matter: study reveals how social cues supercharge pain relief

NCT ID NCT04646460

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looks at how watching someone else get effective treatment, along with your own past experiences, can make placebo effects stronger for pain. About 120 healthy adults will be split into groups to test these effects using brain scans and ratings. The goal is to understand the brain pathways behind these powerful context interventions and see how long the effects last.
