Capsule camera data could sharpen disease detection
NCT ID NCT03771508
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This completed observational study collected over 3,700 PillCam SB3 capsule endoscopy videos from standard care procedures. The goal was to build a large database of images showing both normal and diseased small intestine tissue. Researchers will use this data to develop and validate better computer algorithms for automatically detecting conditions like ulcers, polyps, and cancer.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to more accurate computer algorithms for detecting small intestine diseases using capsule endoscopy videos.
What could go wrong
This is an observational data-collection study, not a treatment trial. The algorithms developed may not perform as expected in real-world use.
Conditions
The condition(s) this trial relates to.
As listed by the trial registrant
The condition terms exactly as the trial's registrant entered them.
