Breathing exercises may enhance physiotherapy for spine condition
NCT ID NCT07749248
First seen Aug 06, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This trial tests whether adding breathing exercises to standard physiotherapy improves lung function, pain, and quality of life in people with thoracic discopathy, a condition affecting the upper spine. Forty participants will be randomly assigned to receive either 15 sessions of classical physiotherapy (ultrasound, TENS, hot packs, and posture exercises) or the same program plus respiratory exercises. Researchers will measure changes in breathing capacity, physical functioning, and pain before and after treatment to see if the combined approach offers extra benefits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Physiotherapy (classical physiotherapy with or without breathing exercises)
- What this could lead to
- If adding breathing exercises to standard physiotherapy improves lung function and quality of life, it could point to a better rehabilitation approach for people with thoracic discopathy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The benefits of adding breathing exercises are uncertain and may not be significant.
