Light therapy shows promise for treating gum disease

NCT ID NCT05252000

First seen Mar 29, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding a light-activated antimicrobial treatment to standard deep cleaning improves gum disease outcomes. Twenty adults with at least one deep gum pocket on each side of the mouth received standard cleaning on one side and cleaning plus the light treatment on the other. Researchers measured bleeding and pocket depth changes over three months to see if the extra treatment helped control the disease.
