Blood test may Fine-Tune iron removal for genetic disorder
NCT ID NCT00007150
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 31 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a blood test called MCV can help guide phlebotomy (blood removal) therapy for people with hereditary hemochromatosis, a genetic condition causing too much iron absorption. About 622 participants aged 15 and older will have regular blood draws to lower iron levels, and researchers will compare MCV to the standard ferritin test for guiding treatment. The goal is to manage iron levels, prevent organ damage, and possibly use donated blood for transfusions.
