What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

PF614 (an extended-release oxycodone prodrug)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a new painkiller option for people recovering from surgery, with possibly fewer side effects than standard opioids.

What could go wrong

This is a Phase 3 trial, but it only tests pain after one type of surgery. The drug may not work better than placebo, and like all opioids, it carries risks of side effects and dependence.
