Breakthrough imaging could spare Crohn's patients unnecessary surgery

NCT ID NCT06252493

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study is testing a special PET/MR scan that uses a radioactive tracer to detect scar tissue in the gut of people with Crohn's disease. The goal is to see if the scan can accurately tell the difference between scarred (fibrotic) and inflamed strictures, which could help doctors decide who needs surgery and who doesn't. About 25 adults with Crohn's disease who are already scheduled for possible surgery will get the scan before their procedure, and the results will be compared to what surgeons and pathologists find.
