Could a slower breath save lives? new ICU study explores gentler ventilation
NCT ID NCT07077174
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study tests whether using a slower breathing rate on the ventilator is safe and practical for critically ill patients who need a breathing tube. About 84 adults in the ICU will be randomly assigned to either the standard approach or a gentler one that allows slightly higher carbon dioxide levels. The goal is to see if this method can be used in a larger future trial to improve patient outcomes.
